IPad crashes, plenty battery left.

Twice now my iPad Air 2 has crashed when there was 35% battery left. I plugged in with the same cable I use all the time and it showed connected, but didn’t charge. On a lark, I tried a different cable and it booted up and is charging. What the heck is going on?

You description suggests that your original cable has a fault - the fault being simply resolved by substituting with a “known good” cable.
