Zoom Crashing Network on MacBook Pro

I'm having trouble with Zoom Meetings on my new MacBook Pro (running Catalina 10.15.6). I'm the host of a Zoom meeting with 26 participants. Without fail, about 5 minutes into each meeting - my entire network shuts off. I'm hard-wiring in with an ethernet cable, and usually experience no trouble. When the network shuts off, I can't access the LAN line or Wifi until I restart the computer. Has anyone else had this issue or know a work-around? (I have a back up PC running in the meeting and that keeps its connection consistently). I've been in touch with my Internet service provider, and all seems good there. I'm running the latest update of Zoom too. Could it all be a bandwidth issue that goes back to my Internet Service provider? Or is it something to do with Zoom and the computer?

I've got a Satechi USB hub (Thunderbolt 3 port) with ethernet cable attached to my MacBook Pro 2020 (Big Sur). It will work all day long providing stable internet, but reacts the same way with Zoom. Complete failure, and all internet connection shuts down, while we have extensively troubleshooted tracking the IP address: everything looks fine. This happened three times to me today already.

I know this is an old post, but I do have one possible tip: unplugging the Satechi hub from the port keeps me from having to restart my computer. Then wi-fi picks up and Zoom continues.

(None of this ever occurred with my 2013 MacBook Pro. Absolutely 100% reliable with ethernet cable connection.)

I have two different USB-C docks. One crashes reliably on Zoom after around 10 minutes, the other works fine. This is with a 2020 MBP 13. I think maybe there's an issue with a third party ethernet chip used in one of the docks and Zoom. Presume Zoom is using a lot of UDP traffic - maybe that is related?

This dock works perfectly - I've never had the network crash with this dock: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06ZY1ZJDQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I am experience the same problem on macOS catalina10.15.7 MacBookAir9,1 (on two identical systems)

I tried two different USB C adapters:

https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB-Multiport-Adapter-Pass-Through/dp/B085X32ZTB

they have the same problem and the only fix is to use WiFi.

Tried different networks with good reliable internet connection.

The CPU and memory are ok.

Other not very useful solution is if I don't enable microphone and use phone the video connection seems to be ok.

My next test is going to be to tested it on macOS Big Sure.

This is exactly what I experience. I'm now running Big Sur 11.2 on my MBP 2020 Intel - I thought maybe the issue would be resolved in the new update, but it hasn't. As soon as I updated I tried using Skype / Zoom - and in both instances they crashed after just a few minutes of use. I had to switch over to wireless for a stable connection.

The Ethernet connection works just fine for non-Zoom/Skype connections - it's only when I try to use those video apps (I haven't tried others) - that I experience a lockup / freeze - and have to disconnect the ethernet and go to wireless. It's very frustrating -

I also have this issue on my Macbook Air 2020. If I plug in my Ethernet cable, Zoom kills my internet connection within 2 minutes and I have to hard reboot to get my internet back. Even if I am on the Wifi it happens as long as the plug is in. I pull out the plug and stick with Wifi and all is fine. This is a pain because my wire is much faster-- but at least it's working. Unplug. Stick with Wifi.

I have the same problem too. My web connection gets lost when I use an ethernet cable and I join a meeting in Zoom.

(Wi Fi no issue)

My workaround is opening Zoom through the website.

At first, Zoom website proposes to use the app to join the meeting however after declining 2 times it allows me to use the website directly.

I am not a frequent Zoom user so maybe I am lacking some features if I use the website but at least I don't lose the connection and audio & video quality is OK.

Have you run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up" or anti-virus apps on your Mac?

Download and run Etrecheck. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and use the Add Text button to include the report in your reply. How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report

IMPORTANT:

Before running Etrecheck assign Full Disk Access to Etrecheck in the Etrecheck's Privacy preference pane so that it can get additional information from the Console and log files for the report:

Also click and read the About info to further permit full disk access.

Then we can examine the report and see if we can determine what might be causing the problem.

This issue happens for me, too. I’ve tried both Zoom & Skype (I have 1g fiber) and after just a few minutes the connection is terminated and a beach ball usually appears. I have to re-start and can only successfully stay connected using wi-fi (Orbi wifi 6).

At first, I thought the Zoom & Skype clients were at fault - but I was conducting a fiber Speedtest via Firefox (and also Safari) and the browser would usually crash during the test. Once again, the beach ball and force quitting the app. (I’ve tried several Ethernet dingles).

Lastly, I can use my Ethernet connect while doing every day tasks like checking email or browsing the web. It’s only when using an app that utilizes the full capability of the fast Ethernet connect (video conferencing) that disconnects and kernel panics spawn. Thankfully, I can connect via wifi and things work fine - but I’d much rather connect via Ethernet.

It appears this happens this is an issue for several MBP users. What is the problem?

After 2 months, finally fixed this. First, I downloaded a Zoom version specifically for M1. Then, after trying 2 docks that didn't work, we purchased the Uni 8-in-1 hub. The Ethernet (LAN) was on right away (green dot in System Prefs/Network, but no internet). Then, change DCHP setting from "manually" to "Using DCHP" (I probably could have used the iPad Pro settings, and enter them manually - with different IP address), And last important step that I wasn't doing, restart your computer right away, and voilà. First time connected to a cable since the '90s - insanely fast and reliable. Sooo happy! And works with any videoconferencing tool. IT guy mentioned the moment you're connected to the router (even if you get "no internet"), you will be able to fix this w/o being a computer genius. Eh, I did.

Same problem here. I am using a USB-C dock for my monitors, LAN, USB etc. When connected to LAN, I got kicked out of Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings after some minutes. Only got this problem with the LAN connection. It doesn't appear when I am connected to WiFi only. When connected to LAN & WiFi, the problem also exists.

Do you guys all have a USB-C dock? Does someone faces the same issues when using a Thunderbolt 3 dock?

Does anyone contact Zoom, Apple or Microsoft to ask for help for the issue?
