external monitor not visible when plugged to iMac

I have an HP 27wm monitor, I connected it by HDMI out to an HDMI--> Thunderbolt 2 adapter.... then this adapter I connected to a Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter to use on my new iMac (2020).... external display is NOT being detected. Wondering if it is an issue of too many adapters? I can connect the Thunderbolt 2 to my older MacBook Air and monitor works fine.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15

How did i not think of that! Thank you so much for the suggestion, just placed my order! Hope this solves my issue so i can get back to writing my book haha
