Anyone having issue with connecting an external monitor? I have an iMac that I want to connect to an HP Pavilion monitor. I am using a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 connector which plugs in as HDMI to the external monitor. External monitor does not seem to receive any signal and goes to sleep.

Thanks. When I was having the connection issue, I spoke with Apple support. They stated that the adapter I was using should work to add a monitor. Said it was probably defective even though it was an Apple adapter.
i purchased the USB -C to HDMI and it connected with no issues.
The quality of the connections and the method of connection makes all the difference. Consider updating to higher quality cabling and verify that all the adapters you are using are the correct path.
