Pairing iWatch and iPhone

After months of success my iWatch would not unlock despite unlocking my iPhone. I tried to unpair them and that does not seem to have been successful. Now my iPhone is trying to pair by asking to hold my watch to the camera. I do that and nothing happens. I then tried manual pairing. There is an instruction to tap the"i" icon on my watch. There is no icon, only the watch face. When I tap on the side button it says the device is locked and to unlock my iPhone but the iPhone is unlocked. iPhone shows Start Pairing screen and nothing else. Please help

Try this;

Press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for about 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.Wait a few seconds, then hold down just the side button for about 20 seconds or until the “erase all settings” prompt shows up on the screen, then click it, then click the green check button.
