Data volume on backup not visible on desktop

My MacBook Pro (2015) was crashing several times a day, so I backed it up using both a clone app as well as Time Machine, then took it into Apple. They erased the 2TB SSD and installed a new system - Catalina 10.15.5 - and told me to reinstall the files and apps one by one from the backups. Problem is the backups contained the corrupted version of Catalina so I can't boot from the clone. I had a lot of emails stored in folders under the On My Mac section of Mail. I can't find them now. The Time Machine backup doesn't show me these folders, and the clone's data volume is not showing up on the desktop. Any suggestions ?

Thanks Chris_g1. I tried again, but the corrupted version of Time Machine on my backup disk does not want to go back anywhere from the present in Mail. Not to worry, Dave from Shirt Pocket (SuperDuper!) helped me to rescue the Mail files from "On My Mac", and they are now on my Desktop as mbox folders.
