3 desktops! Keep moving!

For some reason I have three desktops! I've had my mac 5 yrs and probably set it up like that then. I've only ever used one. Sometimes I touch the mouse with my little finger accidentally, and then I am on a different desktop! It is confusing. Can someone tell me how to get my main one back?

Open the Mission Control app in your Applications folder, at the top of the screen

you will see Desktop 1, Desktop 2 etc, move the cursor upwards to the top and then

the text will turn into thumbnails. As you move the cursor from Desktop 1 to Desktop 2

etc you can see an 'x' appear at the top left of the thumbnail, click it and the Desktop

will disappear.

Don't know why you would want to get rid of Desktops/ Spaces a great feature makes

for less clutter if you have a lot of apps /files open at the same time.

Desktops/ Spaces is really for allocating apps to a certain Desktop/ Space.

For example if you have three Desktops set up you can Assign Safari

to Desktop 1, Mail to Desktop 2 and Messages to Desktop 3.

Use the Control and arrow keys to switch left or right.

Switch to Desktop 1, open Safari, control-click on Safaris icon in the Dock,

select Options and click Assign To This Desktop.

Do the same for Mail in Desktop 2 and Messages in Desktop 3

Of course you can set it up how you like up to 16 Desktops/ Spaces

with the apps you want to use.

You can set up app(s) to appear across all Desktops/ Spaces, I do that for System Preferences.

Also in System Preferences> Mission Control set up your preferences these are mine,

Also in System Preferences> Keyboard> Shortcuts you can set up the shortcuts you want to use for switching between Desktops/ Spaces. These are mine.

If you want to separate work from home then maybe for example use Desktops 1 to 5 as work and 5 to 10 as home.

Or you could set up two user accounts, one for work and one for home, and you can login and out of each

when you need to.

Thank you, I would really like to know how to use the three desktops I have. I guess I could have a work one and a personal one. I have only just started working from home so yes, I can see the benefits. I had to use google chrome as my default, but with safari I know where all my passwords are. I have noticed since having chrome that I sometimes have to put the password in and now I have to look it up. So instead of getting rid of the desktops, how would I go about getting a separate work one and a separate personal one?

Thank you so much for your help.
