2020 MacBook Pro does not recognize Apple Superdrive

I have a new 13" MacBook Pro running Catalina. I have an Apple Superdrive that works on two older computers that are running Mojave. The drive works on both of those computers.

I connect the drive to the new computer with a VAVA hub. If I do this when the computer is running, the computer returns this message "USB Accessory Needs Power. Connect Apple USB Supper Drive to a USB port on this Mac."

If I restart the Mac with drive already connected to the Mac, the computer does not return any message and it does not recognized the drive.

I assume this an operating system problem. Does Apple have any intention to fix this? Or does Apple now consider DVD's to be extinct?

Following the advice from Krupp, I did buy this connector:

Apple USB-to-USB-C adapter

I can report that my 2020 MacBook Pro does recognized the superdrive when it is connected through this adapter. The adapter also works with other USB devices.

You might find it on sites other than the Apple Store at a lower price.

Many thanks to everyone who responded to my question.

Hello,

RE: MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019

macOS Catalina Version 10.15.4

I went through the full gamut of issues using my USB SuperDrive on my MacBook pro.

  1. First my Macbook Pro could not recognize the Drive and I was getting this error message: "USB Accessory Needs Power. Connect Apple USB Supper Drive to a USB port on this Mac."
  2. After changing the USB hub I assume that it got connected because I no longer got the error message. But I could not insert the disc in.
  3. My husband got the disc to finally get inside the drive but the Macbook Pro laptop did not recognize it and the disc could not be ejected.
  4. A great amount of people still have items on CDs & DVDs and need to use a drive that the "tech geniuses" eliminated from their computers.

What's going on? It looks like a lot of people have reported the same issues with the SuperDrive and there is no solution posted

here since then, to help us resolve these issues!

When are we going to get help on our issues?

As has been stated before the SuperDrive will NOT work with a USB Hub orDock. It will only work when plugged directly into a USB port on your MacBook Pro. On your 2019 MacBook Pro you will need the adapter mentioned in this thread. So it's not an issue but a matter of understanding and education.
