Plugged my USB super drive into my Mac but it does not show up as connected and will not accept a DVD.

I just purchased a USB SuperDrive and plugged it into a USB port on my Macbook Pro, running Catalina 10.15.7. However, it doesn't show up as connected and will not accept a DVD. I tried turning off the computer and restarting it with the SuperDrive connected. Nothing.

The SuperDrive works only with CDs and DVDs, not Blu-ray. My own SuperDrive mounts CDs and DVDs without any problem but if I insert a blu-ray disk, it ejects it.
