Swapping SIM cards

Long story, but my daughter has a cracked/mostly unusable iPhone 7 that is not backed up. I have an iPhone 5c that I use as an iPod. The 5c doesn't have a SIM card. Can she put the SIM card from her 7 into the 5c just to have a usable phone while she figures things out? What's the possibility of data loss if this is done?

Thanks!

The iPhone 5c and the iPhone 7 use the same type of sim card. So yes, it will work and she will be able to make calls and send and receive messages.

You may want to restore the iPhone 5c and have her set it up from scratch just so she is not asked for your Apple ID every time an app needs to be updated and she is not accessing your information and contacts.
