I'm connecting my external screen using a USB C cable, and have a couple of disks attached to it via USB C.

The external screen / USB C may be the issue, I don't think it's the USB C dock.

My crash report looks pretty much like yours and I suspect it's the graphic adapter driver not coping with power saving (power nap, in this case) correctly, especially since all the crash reports I've seen seem to pin the blame on com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily.

I disabled power nap, (System Preferences->Energy Saver->Enable Power Nap while...) and it seems to work around the issue.

I try to re-enable it after each update - only to disable it again when I realize the issue was not resolved (10.15.5 was the latest attempt).

While power nap is not a very important feature for me, it's pretty much annoying that it can't be used with the top of the line brand new MacBook Pro 16", especially since this issue has been happening to so many people for so long.

There are more and more reports of the 10.15.4 and sleep/crash issues .

I suspect you can anticipate a supplemental update or wait for the 10.15.5 update to resolve a software issue.

please submit your Apple Feedback http://www.apple.com/feedback in an effort to expedite this resolve.

Hmmm a lot of users are experiencing the same issue here with their MBP 16 inch. Their error logs are very similar Too.

you can download etrecheck from the Mac App Store and then choose your error and select start. It will then scan for potential errors that could have caused the issue. After it’s done, click on the TOP right “share report” and select copy report. Then send the report here as “additional text”.

then we can see if any other user can help to read the error log.

I have the same problem with almost identical crash reports. Was hoping the additional

10.15.5 update would fix this problem but it did not.

After following the steps from the Apple Support page I discovered the problem only occurs when connected to a USB-C adapter. When connected and in sleep mode the fans start spinning loud after about 5 minutes and than it shuts down. This does not happen when no USB-C dock is connected. Nor dit dit before the 10.15.4 update.

I am using a Baseus USB-C adapter to connect my screen, Wacom and keyboard.

Really hope this gets fixed with the next update.

I have the same issue, Catalina 10.15.4 + MacBook 16".

Does not happen on my MacBook 15" late 2016" (also Catalina 10.15.4).

At first, I thought it was something with my old software (I restored it from a time machine), so I did a clean install.

No third party extension, only have software from the Mac app store, nothing special - and yes, same crashes.

My computer is usually connected to a power source.

There is something wrong with Catalina + MacBook 16", posting generic posts about reseting the SMC, or apple knowledge base about generic stuff to do when your computer crashes won't help.

It's something Apple needs to work out, from what I gather it's a problem with sleep mode and the graphic adapter, so updated drivers should fix it, but it's been this way for a while now, doesn't look like apple is very good at fixing these things.

If we all "report" these issues using the report button, it may help.

Somebody above said it might be dropbox. I don't know why that would be the case but I am pretty sure I uninstalled lots of apps and reinstalled them and dropbox was probably one of the apps I did uninstall and reinstall.

I do think it's possible that the crash is related to some apps related issues because the most noticeable problem besides the crashes were that many apps I used to use were on my new computer after the migration but they didn't work and required me to either delete and reinstall or just delete and never use again if I didn't care about them that much.

If I were you I would try uninstalling and reinstalling most apps that don't come with the computer by default and then see if it helps.

Thanks for that link. I've seen it many times. If there isn't an obvious fix, I may need to back up my computer and reinstall OS.

I've noticed minor problems because of the data migration... lots of apps on my old computer were migrated over but they had problems on the new computer.

I suspect what I'll need to do is backup this computer completely. Then wipe it completely and only copy data files I need over, e.g., stuff in Documents and then reinstall all apps manually.

I'm not having the problem anymore but to be honest I can't tell you what in particular I did that fixed the issue.

* I remember doing the SMC power reset. I probably followed instructions like here: https://osxdaily.com/2010/03/24/when-and-how-to-reset-your-mac-system-management-controller-smc/.

* I didn't notice the problem was fixed after that so I don't think it helped but probably didn't hurt.

* The most obvious problem I noticed with my new laptop was that many apps didn't work. The data migration didn't go as planned. So I started deleting apps completely and reinstalling the ones that I use regularly. One of the apps I deleted and resinstalled might have helped.

* To be honest I tried lots of things based on posts I saw and eventually I gave up and resigned myself to wiping the computer and migrating my data over so that I only migrated key documents but no app related data and then installing all apps on the new computer manually. But one day I noticed the problems stopped happening and I don't know what changed.
