The type accented characters just stop working on my Macbook help!

I need accented characters to write in Italian from my American computer.

I didn't change any settings, it just stopped working, now when I press and hold one letter I just have this: eeeeeeeee (instead of options for accents!)

Help.

While you are waiting for a fix for those popup menus, you can use the standard option key shortcuts for your accents:
