I've reset phone and reset the watch and still won't pair

My watch was originally paired to a phone I no longer have. I've gone through all the steps to pair with my current phone iPhone 8 plus. The watch goes into pairing mode but won't pair or manually pair.

Apple Watch Series 1, watchOS 3

The watch won't go any further than the pair screen after reset. I can 't get to the connection center
