Do I really need an iPhone with iOS 13 to use an Apple Watch Series 5? I have an iPhone 6 Plus and it doesn’t support iOS 13. I cannot afford to buy a new iPhone just so I can buy and use an Apple Watch Series 5. :(

Thanks. Really disappointing though. I’d like an Apple Watch Series 5... but I’d need a new iPhone with iOS 13 ....but the new iPhone 11 also requires a Mac running Catalina, but mine is an old Mac running Yosemite ...so I probably need a new Mac. So, in short....
Apple Watch requires —> new iPhone, requires —> upgraded or new Mac.

Your Mac needs one version up: macOS 10.11.6 El Capitan is compatible.
iPhone 6s is real cheap in the second hand market if you do want one.
The lock in has it advantages as well.
When I get a call/text, I can answer whatever near me Mac/iPhone/iPad/Watch.
I can write on a Mac then finish it off on an iPad/iPhone,......
Sorry, you do need at least an iPhone 6s or later with iOS 13 to paired with Watch Series 5 that came with watchOS 6.
