So, my computer is running slow so i decided to upgrade the ram and install a new ssd, although i cant figure out how to download the os to an external storage device. Ive been told to go to the app store but i the only ios available is mojave which i know wont run on this computer. Is this computer too old for the internet boot? if so how do i go about loading a fresh os to the new ssd.

I'm now running macOS Catalina. I'd like to download the software to put onto a thumb drive/external hard drive so that, if I wish, I can erase my iMac hard drive (Fusion drive - machine not yet two years old) and install Catalina afresh from the copy on my thumb drive.
Is that possible?
