Bluetooth stopped working on MacBook Air

My MacBook Air has suddenly stopped connecting to my iPhone via Bluetooth. Up until very recently I could Airdrop from phone to MacBook and had the option to answer calls on my MacBook. Suddenly they no longer seem to be able to talk to each other. When I try to connect bluetooth manually I can see phone on MacBook and MacBook on phone but when I tray to connect them I get an error message on my phone saying "Pairing Unsuccessful - MacBook Air is not supported". I am not aware that I have had any software updates recently. As far as I'm aware my software on both is up to date.

This is normal behavior. You are not allowed to pair these devices, but both require Bluetooth to be “on” for AirDrop to proceed.

Might your iPhone not have been used very recently? When that happens, it seems to go into a deeper sleep than other times.
