Earpod Default Volume Potential Health Risk

When I connect my AirPods Pro 2 to my MacBook, the system automatically sets the volume to 50%. This is dangerously loud when headphones are already in my ears. Previously, the connection respected the last used volume (e.g., 1–2 ticks), but this safety feature no longer works.

I have attempted all standard troubleshooting steps: restarting my MacBook, forgetting and re-pairing the AirPods, and resetting Bluetooth. Both my AirPods and MacBook are fully updated as of the time of writing.

This issue poses a serious health risk, as sudden exposure to high volumes can cause physical harm, including hearing damage and potential long-term auditory injury. Apple could be liable for physical abuse or negligence if users continue to be subjected to these unsafe automatic volume levels. Immediate support or a fix is required.

Please report this via Apple's feedback channels as other commenter suggested. I have done this multiple times already.

I created a workaround kind of thing based on a script I found from Reddit (you can find the link to the post from the repo below) that tries to mitigate the issue. However, it does not restore the volume to last known good position, but instead sets it (with retries when Macbook fights back) to your desired initial level.

You can find the instructions from the repo if you want to try it out, it's a Lua script running on Hammerspoon which you can install via homebrew:
