I have noticed that from time to time my Macbook pro heats up when charging and stays that way for a while even when I have unplugged it. Is this a fault or am I doing something wrong?

If it stays unusually hot at idle, check Activity Monitor for runaway apps or background indexing (like Spotlight or Photos). Also make sure the vents around the hinge area aren’t blocked—these machines rely on that airflow more than people realize.
