Unable to shut down my MacBook Pro

It restarts instead. AI tells me to enter safe mode. How in the world can I enter safe mode without shutting the computer down first??


I have turn EntreCheck, but only found minor issues, such as

some apps using heavy resources.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.6

I see nothing in the report that should impact the current issue


Regarding Al suggestions


The AI may also suggest doing a SMC Reset and / or a PRAM / NVRAM Reset


Do not believe this is it were to make this suggestion


Neither will work on Apple Silicon computers


Press and hold the power (Touch ID) button for up to 10 seconds, until the Mac turns off.

Have never been about to figure that one out


Perhaps Apple in its wisdom has some ideas ?


Use surgical gloves when using the laptop lol

So, in effect, the original suggestion from BDAqua worked


Provided, the user had performed this action properly ( Hold for about 10 seconds * alligators " )
