This is a classic case of a video file being interrupted during writing (thanks to that lid closure!). The file exists but isn’t properly finalized, which is why QuickTime Player and VLC can't read it. Since you have an M-chip Mac, here’s what you can try:
1. First, try changing the extension to .mov (even if it already has one). Then try opening it again.
2. Use QuickTime Player’s repair function:
• Open QuickTime Player (don’t open the file directly).
• Go to File > Open File… and select the corrupted video.
• If prompted, choose "Repair" if available. This sometimes works for partially written files.
3. Try a dedicated repair tool (if the above fails):
For severely corrupted files, you might need a video repair tool. maybe you can have a try.
