Podcasts marked as played on iOS 18.5

I followed a new podcast and this morning all the episodes were marked as played on the podcasts app, but not on browser or desktop iTunes. I saw this issue was "fixed" in 18.1, I was on 18.5 when this occurred and updated to 18.6 to see if that would fix it, it did not.


Is there a way to mass select episodes on apple podcasts to mark them as unplayed, or do I have to do this one by one? There's 200+ episodes in this series alone, I haven't even checked the rest of the series I follow.

The issue fixed in 18.1 is actually different and was related to a coding issue on the podcast home tab that caused some episodes to flip status. it seemed to affect episodes that showed up in a users home tab and it usually affected more recent episodes across multiple podcasts. I sincerely hope that bug is not back. I’m pretty sure I missed some podcast episodes back then b/c I didn’t really have a good way to notice when this was happening.


I’ve actually never heard anyone describe this particular symptom before, and I’m pretty sure it is something different. This actually sounds like it might be podcast specific… Have you done any more troubleshooting? Does the symptom appear more broadly? if you want to tell me what the podcast is, I can follow it and see what happens on my end.


I don’t think there’s a way for you to directly flip the status of all those episodes at once. But if this is a podcast specific issue then the following solution might work => First, unfollow the podcast. Second reach out to the Podcasts creators and let them know about your experience. If it’s something they need to fix on their end, then once that’s done and you follow the podcast the status of episodes should be correct.


Do you have if you have more than one device? If so, you might be able to resolve device specificity issues by doing this => First, unfollow the podcast on your first device and close out the podcast app. On your second device, check the operating system is up-to-date and then open the app. Do you have the same issue when you refollow the podcast from there? If the status is correct on your second device, than that should sync across all your devices.


You could also just download a different podcatcher to use for this podcast backlog. Hopefully once you get caught up all new episodes will reflect unplayed.
