How to fix FaceTime connection issues on Android?

Hi I followed all the steps here Join a FaceTime call from an Android or Windows device - Apple Support and when I try to facetime with a friend it says 'maybe: [name].' It asks me to approve them. I do, then it says on my end 'unavailable' and on their end it says this.

We cannot connect. Any idea what is going wrong? They can click the link, I can click to allow them in, but it just stone walls at the end. Have tried on imac (2024), macbook air (2025) and iphone 13 pro.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi, and welcome to the Apple (user-tto-user) Community!

Re: FaceTime: "We cannot connect".

Seems the linked article in your post is for the Android user who follows a FaceTime link from you to join the call via the web.

The friend on Android (or Windows) may need the latest version of Chrome or Microsoft Edge, access to the internet, and be able to use camera and microphone (inbuilt or conected) )

As the FaceTime user: you likely followed the steps in the article below to start the call by sending the link to the Android user.:

For iPhone: Create a link to a FaceTime call on iPhone - Apple Support

or

For Mac: Start or join a call from a FaceTime link - Apple Support

Troubleshooting: If needed:

See: If you can't make or receive a FaceTime call on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Eg: See if following the steps at the bottom of the article above can help:

Thank you for the reply, but we did all of this. In fact, I contacted apple support for this and they had no clue what to do. Their ‘best’ advice was to reinstall iOS on my machine (it’s a popular ‘help’ for them— I’ve reinstalled at least a dozen times because of other issues. It does NOTHING.)

they were absolutely useless, and had no idea what to do.

would be very happy to take any other suggestions cos they clearly don’t know and don’t care about to fix it.

I’m not asking for a miracle— I’m asking that the features they claim are available are actually what they say they are.

cheers!

Thank you for checking that nothing there helped the situation, and for letting us know. Seems others are often successful in using the same software and online guidance. If we could find the source of the issue you face, the solution would likely be obvious.

I guess you have checked your iOS version is up-to-date. (eg: iOS18.6 included bug-fixes and security updates). (NB: is always wise to back-up first if updating iOS)

You could check whether your iPhone has enough memory / storage free (eg: at least 8 Gb) to continue operating smoothly, and to do all you ask it to do ?

If you have any un-necessary third-party (non-Apple) apps installed, like ad-blockers, virus-checkers, cleaners, and the like (even VPN can cause issues) try turning them off, and see if it makes any difference.

Any third-party apps you find necessary do need to be kept up-to-date with the newest versions. Eg: so they do not cause incompatibility issues.

Thank you for the reply but we did all of this.

I tried it on my imac (2024), MacBook Air (2025) and iPhone (13 pro). They are all up to date. I disabled all vpns and third party programmes.

My friend did not use vpns, we did everything on the recommendations and how-tos. They tried their phone and laptop, and we tried multiple browsers- Firefox, chrome, safari.

we did everything correctly. When I talked to Apple support we went through all the basics and’s they agreed we did ensuring correctly.

they had no idea how to resolve it. Their horrible advice was to reinstall iOS. If it doesn’t work on 5 devices, it’s probably not the iOS. Especially considering how many times have had to reinstall iOS because of other issues on iMac.

I’m grateful for the reply, but we troubleshooted everything that send basic like iOS. Any further help would be appreciated.

thank you.
