Glitchy & Distorted Guitar Signal When Recording & Listening in Playback

Hey everyone, I hope this is the right place to put this question, please let me know if not but I've been experiencing this annoying problem with Logic Pro and recording my guitar through my Focusright Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen Interface. I have looked everywhere to fix it but Im honestly clueless at this point. Basically, what happens is that I go to record my guitar through a clean channel with no plug-ins or anything added on, and I get this glitchy sounding, quiet, distorted sound when I listen back to the recording. Like there's barely a recording, it's just glitchy sounding guitar dropping in and out thats struggling to be heard. Looking at the waveform when recording, there appears to a very faint signal coming through, the green bars shows there's something but it drops in and out. The wave form is just one horizontal line with the occasional tiny spike. I first thought it was my interface but realised that when going into GarageBand and testing it, it was totally fine and sounded crisp and clear, no issues. I then realised it must be logic? I've never had this problem before, so really not sure why it's doing it now. I'll note that I can hear my guitar clear and crisp through the interface, the issue only arrises when I try to record. When I hit the INST button on the interface, the volume increases and it seems there glitch and distorted sound still happens through I have hear it more in the playback. I'll provide a list of things that I've done so far to fix the issue and a google drive link to what I am seeing / hearing when trying to record (the video has all the volume turned up as much as I can so you can hear whats happening, the issue can't be from clipping or anything). If there's anything you can suggest, please let me know. I'd appreciate it so much!

  • Updated logic to 11.1.2 and MacBook to Sequoia 15.5 (Lastest versions of both)
  • Restarted computer
  • Deleted and reinstalled Logic Pro
  • I have installed to my computer the latest software from Scarlett website
  • Have opened a clean track with no plug ins selected, selecting the correct input for my guitar (e.g. input one where my guitar is plugged into on Scarlett) and output is stereo out.
  • I have increased buffer size
  • Made sure Ive got input and output set to logic in audio settings in logic

Lots of folks with Scarlett solve similar issues by giving Logic Pro FULL DISK ACCESS.

I don't own a Scarlett, but these suggestions are worth following up on:

  1. Check for a firmware update for your Scarlett. Make sure you're using the latest firmware.
  2. Does Focusrite have a Mac driver for your Scarlett? As you said, GarageBand is much simpler and it might get by using your Scarlett as a USB Class Compliant device, but Logic may expect the driver for full functionality **.

** Logic may have been tested with Scarlett with the driver installed, not without.

Hi Eddie, thanks for the reply. I just allowed Logic Pro full disk access, restarted the computer and tried again with Logic Pro with no luck. Any other ideas? I'm wondering if I need to try to full uninstall the program and try reinstalling again. Last time I did so I just moved it to bin and emptied it. Could it be that maybe some left over system files are on the computer causing an issue?

Okay no worries, I have downloaded and reinstalled Logic Pro but it doesn't seem to want to update me to the latest feature. I have a suspicion its because I am on the 90 day trial that I keep renewing 😅

I have also allowed full disk access and mic access to logic. With Scarlett however I don't believe it has its own app expert for the focusright control centre, I allowed full disk access to it anyway but the microphone access had no option to do so.
