what are the best browsers for AI work on Mac running macOS 11.7.10

I have an old Mac OS Intel 11.7.10 2014. Still hanging there. I am waiting for the new MAC PRO M1; till then, I must somehow manage to work on this one. Browsers like Chrome, Opera are heating and the work is ...bad :-) - (yes, I cleaned it by the way). Impossible to work normally. Can you advise a browser that is not as loaded, and can work well with GPT and graphic AI? Thank you for any suggestions. Vero

The M1 family's time has already come and gone.

If you are referring to the Mac Pro desktop computer, there is already one that uses the M2 Ultra. Be aware that while the current Mac Pro has PCIe expansion slots, it does NOT have expandable RAM and it does NOT accept graphics cards. The design center of the Mac Pro changed radically when Apple released the 2013 "trash can", then again when they released the highly expandable 2019 Intel minitower, then once again when they came out with the M2 Ultra Mac Pro. If you don't need the slots, you can get similar power in a Mac Studio at much lower cost. (There are M4 Max Mac Studios and M3 Ultra Mac Studios, but curiously enough, no M4 Ultra ones.)

If you are referring to the MacBook Pro notebook computer, there are now ones with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips.

I believe that Big Sur is enough to run current versions of just about all of the major third-party browsers, including

  • Firefox
  • Brave
  • Opera
  • Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge

As for which is best for running your work, I don't know. Brave is supposed to be built on a version of the Chromium engine – but without all of the tracking stuff that is in Chrome. Firefox uses its own engine, which may indicate that on some tasks, its performance would be better – or worse – than that of Brave.

It sounds like you've already ruled out Chrome and Opera as not being up to the task on your 2014 machine.
