Can any one let me know if using safari has to go through Youtube/google please.
That is not required.
A search doesn’t specifically address that issue.
Not surprising. You are using Google, are you not? Expecting Google to help you stop using Google is not reasonable.
Since Google owns YouTube they are not likely to change. Either Use Distraction Control in Safari to hide items on a webpage, tell the website developer (Google) to remove them, or stop patronizing the website (YouTube).

But safari uses google, no? im just searching for say, shoelaces and i have to cancel the popup asking if i want to use the google app!
It does not have to. You can change your search engine to another one if you don’t want to use Google and avoid th3 suggestions to use its App. Settings ➡️ Apps ➡️ Safari ➡️ Search Engine.
Stop going to google websites. Google will suggest you use their app instead of say the Google search website, or the Gmail website, or the google photos website etc...
