How to get iPod Shuffle to sync with Apple Music

iPod Shuffle shows up in finder, but Apple Music (macOS 15.5 Sequoia) does not detect the device when attached to MacBook Pro, Apple M3 Max. Made multiple attempts to reboot/restart/restore but device seems stuck in restore mode with rolling scroll bar and iPod indicator light flashing yellow/orange.

Apple Music - the subscription service: music from Apple Music cannot be added to an iPod nano. (The only iPod that Apple Music can be used with, as far as I know, is the iPod Touch.)

Instead, use Finder to manage the iPod, which should already be on your Mac. See this Apple article for more information: Use the Finder to sync your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with your Mac – Apple Support (UK)

If Finder doesn't see your ipod, check this Apple article (which is referred to in the first article: If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

For anyone reading this who uses Windows, Apple Music is two things:

    1. the subscription service mentioned above
    2. an app, that claims to replace iTunes. At this time, it is not yet a suitable replacement for iTunes
