It loads but then won't stay on if I walk away before putting in my password...it completely shuts down by itself.

As a test, see if Safe Boot works… holding shift key at power up.
Macs will now power off if you boot it, but never log into it. I believe this is a power saving "feature". I noticed this happening several years ago.
Perhaps the following is happening. After loading the Mac operating system. the Mac then begins installing apps which you have elected to have preinstalled. If so, one of them may be causing problems. I would try canceling the up-front app openings and then see what happens.If no problem, then you need to option each one to open one at a time to find the culprit.
