iPhone 16 Pro Max overheating issue while using FaceTime

Hello,

I recently purchased an iPhone 16 Pro Max (iOS 18.5), and I’ve noticed a specific overheating issue. The phone heats up noticeably after just a few minutes of FaceTime calls — but only with FaceTime.

Other video call apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Zoom do not cause any heat, even with longer calls.

I’ve already tried:

– Turning FaceTime off and on

– Signing out and back in with my Apple ID

– Resetting Network Settings

The phone is used in a normal room temperature, not while charging, with a strong Wi-Fi connection, and minimal apps running in the background.

Please let me know if this is a known issue with iOS 18.5 and if a fix or update is expected.

Thank you,

Marsida

FaceTime is very battery intensive, so it is normal for the phone to heat up when the battery is working harder. But overheating is an overused word. Your phone would only be overheating if you see a thermometer on the screen with a warning the phone has to cool down before you can use it again. If you aren't seeing that, your iPhone is NOT overheating.

What just happened?

You said it just feels hot to touch. Here’s my response:

Thanks. So while you don’t see a pop up notification regarding your device over heating, you really don’t have anything to be concerned about. Your iPhone has built in temperature sensors which will protect it from over heating, to the point of shutting it off if it gets too hot.
