Keyboard locks with pop up on my iMac opening screen

I have just purchased a second hand iMac 27” from a dealer. It works fine but as soon as I log on a pop up window saying ‘ “Calendar” would like to use your current location’ opens which locks the keyboard until either Don’t allow or OK buttons are pressed. I have a Magic Mouse 2 connected which is fully charged and works on the iPad. But it needs to be activated in Settings which I can’t do because the keyboard is inactive.

Does anyone know of a work around or a backdoor way to activate the mouse or to stop the popup ?

Hi,

If you mean activate the Magic Mouse is pairing your Magic Mouse with your iMac, connect your Magic Mouse with iMac via USB-A to Lighting cable for a while, you can charge the battery as well, then disconnect the mouse for paring your Magic Mouse with your iMac easily.

Thanks every one - I ended up ringing Apple Support, after answering some questions he concluded that my two mice were not compatible- One was too new for the OS the other was too old (it was a ball mouse). Suggested obtaining an infrared mouse and trying that. I borrowed my daughter in laws and it worked. I was able accept the popup and then I upgraded the OS after which my Magic Mouse was recognised and all is now sweet. Now I just have to work out how unpack my backed up DOS files to transfer to the MAC (I no longer have a DOS computer)

Return it ASAP, it clearly was not setup correctly per Apple's instructions in What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac. This means it will ALWAYS be associated with the previous owner and will be worthless to you. If you cannot afford a new Mac then buy a used one from a reputable source such as Apple's Refurbished on Apple.com or if you must buy used buy from macsales.com. NEVER EVER buy a used Mac from:

  • Ebay
  • Marketplace
  • Amazon
  • Craigslist
  • Nextdoor
  • Local PC dealer
  • Friend, neighbor, acquaintance etc...
