Pro Display XDR does not plug and play

I am sharing this mainly because there is seemingly nothing out there on this issue, and when I called Apple Support, they could not figure it out.

The Pro Display XDR displays have an issue where they will not “plug and play” when connected to an M-series computer, unless you:

(1) Power cycle the monitor (unplug and replug in)

(2) Unplug and replug the Thunderbolt cable to the Mac in question

(3) Power cycle the Mac

The only way to fix this issue (that I have found) is to use a Thunderbolt powered dock—which keeps the monitor in an “active” state. Otherwise, you can’t plug and play the monitor at all, without following the power cycle steps above.
