How do I stop an already deleted Calendar invite on my iPhone?

The recurring calendar invite was from someone else and I mistakenly edited it on my iphone. This somehow changed the ownership to me. However, I deleted it off my calendar, but it is still sending out alerts to everyone else.

I already had someone send me back the ical from the rogue invite, but it comes to me as a "fwd" and I am unable to edit/delete any further. The invite sent back to me has an iCloud address that when I plug into a browser says that it is no longer shared.

How can I get this all to stop?
