iPhone 15 Pro battery draining rapidly due to background update

My iPhone 15 Pro has been showing me for days in the battery settings as a warning that an update is completing in the background and I see that my battery is draining very quickly.

It's not a warning but rather a friendly reminder. The message means exactly what it says. After an update, your iPhone may drain more battery and be hotter as your iPhone is completing post-update background tasks, mainly indexing. Indexing is creating and sorting a searchable database on your iPhone, and is used to power certain features such as Spotlight Search and Search in Photos. The general rule of thumb is 36-72 hours.

Welcome!

Do Settings > General > Software Update and see it it actually shows a system update in progress. If so, conenct the phone its charger and see if the update will complete.

👉🏻 Updates may not finish if there is not enough free space on your phone.

If no updates show there, open the App Store and see if any app updates are pending. The App Store home screen will have a red notification badge:

I do updates only when my devices are on wall power.
