iPad: Can't get rid of previous apple account's Messages. PRIVACY ISSUE.
Please tell me there is a solution to this. All I want is to use an iPad, with my Apple account, and have it not not show me private records from somebody else's Apple account.
I have been given an iPad. First, I realized I could not make a separate user account. Fine. So the previous user logged out of their apple account in everything. Then I logged into everything using my Apple account. To be clear: iMessages, iCloud, the iPad.. they were all showing my account info. I set up several things, then looked at Messages and realized that I could see all of their Messages. *THIS*IS*A*HUGE*PRIVACY*ISSUE*
I have since seen that I am not alone.
Messages was turned off in iCloud syncing, so at least all of those messages weren't added to my general Messages records. Based on what I saw, I did the "set up to transfer iPad/erase all data" procedure. It said everything was fine, so I went through with it and set up the iPad again.
Now:
–Apparently the iPad did an iCloud backup before I reset it, and when I logged in again it restored everything, include the Messages that had been on the iPad. I cannot find out how I can stop it from restoring some parts of the backup (or any of the backup).
–While the iPad was restarting, it automatically switched Messages syncing to "on".
–I turned if off while it was still downloading information, so maybe it hadn't started automatically uploading all of the previous person's messages. I don't want those messages. Keeping track of my own messages is enough work. Plus, *Privacy*.
–But now, I don't know which Message threads are from my account and which are not. There are a lot of threads. I do not want to go through all of them and *Read*Enough*Messages*In*Each*Thread* to determine which are message threads that I should not actually have access to.
–For that matter, I don't know how to delete Message threads.
–As far as I can tell, if Messages iCloud syncing is off, I can't stop the iPad from including Messages in an iCloud backup. So trying the reset again won't help. And if I delete all of the messages on the iPad, then turn on Messages syncing so I can start fresh, iCloud will not re-download all of the messages it has in my account. Instead, it will assume that I deleted messages on the iPad because I want to delete them from all of my devices.
So! As far as I can tell I cannot delete messages from the iPad, and the iPad only, unless I never turn on Message syncing.
—Even if I am confident that I will never turn syncing on, because I forgot why it's off, I have already seen the iPad turn it on without asking me.
—Even if I figure out how to delete threads, I can't do it without invading the privacy of the previous user my identifying threads that were not mine. And it would take a lot of work. Assuming it is even possible.
How do I get out of this?
