Magnetic Mask Problem-I'm sure this is an easy fix!

Hi Everyone,

I think this is a very easy fix...I just can't seem to find it. I am doing a tutorial step by step, trying to replace the sky.

As you can see from my screenshot I have applied the Magnetic Mask to the top clip. The bottom clip should now be showing through (as my secondary screenshot from the tutorial shows)...but for some reason it is not. I have done the following:

Messed with every setting in the Inspector I can think of.

Inverted the Mask.

Tried the Blend Modes.

Deleted and reapplied the Mask.

Deleted my Preferences.

I just can't figure out why the bottom clip isn't showing through. What am I just not seeing??? I know this is going to be so easy, and I'm going to feel so silly for asking...yet this is driving me crazy!

I have just figured out one more thing...

Through process of elimination I found that the bottom clips weren't showing on a couple of the examples...just this gray screen. So, I found the original clips in the Event Viewer and replaced them. It seemed to solve the problem. Sorry to have bothered everyone. Thank you!

I've had a similar issue on more than one occasion in 11.1. I think there's some GUI bugs. I've had attached clips go grey and dark in the Timeline. Relaunch FCP and they're fine. Go figure...

I have just figured out one more thing...

I went on to the next example of the tutorial. When I hit the V key to mute the top clip I see the bottom clip in the viewer but in the canvas the screen is completely gray. Again, I think I may have it another key at some point but I just don't know what that is. However, when I move on to the next example in the tutorial everything works perfectly. Thought this might be helpful information.

Thank you BenB for responding...and for letting me know I'm not going completely crazy!! And if I see that particular issue what to do! Although many times relaunching FCP seems to fix a lot of little glitches that might happen, so it's always my first line of defense now. Reboot is a very useful tool :) Have a great day!
