iCloud bill split between family

The most recent billing of icloud came different as it charged half to my card, the rest to my friend. There are 2 other members in the family but it appears only us have linked our cards. This didn't happen before. Also, when we did the math it charged us more. I thought at first that it was I didn't have enough in the card, but when this happened in the past the notification would pop up and it just would not charge anyone else, as I'm the organizer of the family.

I had purchase sharing off in case someone's wondering. I'm on the latest ios update on a iPhone 14 pro

This is really weird, any help is appreciated

Any subscriptions started by any member of the Family sharing group are by definition charged to the Family Organizer. The only time a Family Member is charged for a purchase or subscription is if they have Apple Account balance available. Apple will try to charge that first, and then move on to the Family Organizer's payment method.

The only way your friend's payment method is charged is if you added your friends card or payment method to your account and as you say, you did not have enough on yours to pay the full cost. In cases like that, Apple goes down the list of payment methods added on the family organizer account until the full cost of the subscription can be charged.
