Setting up Mac Mini with Bluetooth Keyboard (non-Apple)

I recently got a refurbished 2018 Mac Mini. When I went to set it up I got stuck as it would not see my non-Apple Bluetooth Keyboard, and I didnt have a wired keyboard to use for initial setup. After a lot of searching I finally found a work-around from the Mac Rumors Forums, and want to share it with anyone having this problem, so that you don't go out and buy another keyboard in desperation like I almost did!!

After connecting my monitor and mouse and powering up, go through the set up screens until you get to the Administrator Account page where you have to type info.

If your wireless keyboard doesn't connect follow these instructions -

1. Right click in the 'Name' section

2. Select Substitutions -> 'Show Substitutions'

3. Click 'Text Preferences'

4. Up the top left click 'Show All'

5. This opens up the main System Preferences screen where you can then go to 'Keyboard'

6. Connect your bluetooth keyboard!

I hope this helps save some time for someone who struggled like me!
