Mac mini BT pairing
Trying to set up a new mac mini. Can't get started without a paired keyboard. The mouse works because it came with a dongle.

Another thing you could do is buy an Apple Bluetooth keyboard. Even if you don't use it with this Mac Mini, keep it around. Always nice to have; it can pair with not only your Mac, but with an iPad and iPhone!

Thanks, I have an older Apple BT keyboard that pairs with my old Imac. I've tried unpairing it from the Imac and connecting to the mini. the problem is the mini needs me to sign in, I don't know how to without a keyboard.
I have an Apple "Extended" keyboard that came with my now "no longer have it" 2017 iMac that I now use with my Late 2014 Mac mini. With every "fresh" install of MacOS (Catalina, Big Sur, Monterey) I get to the keyboard identification part of the first login, and I'm told that the software can't identify the keyboard. I think it was Monterey before I stopped yelling at the Mac mini "But it's an Apple keyboard."
Borrow a USB keyboard from another computer.
Always keep a USB keyboard and mouse available for times such as this.
If you can connect that BT keyboard via Lightning cable to the new Mini, it should recognize it after a few seconds! (If adequately charged)
No ports on the old BT or on the new BT keyboard I just bought.
The old BT...is it AA or AAA powered?
AA
DANG! You got the OG keyboard!!
Sorry, if that's the case, Im out of options...outside of buying a new one.
I did buy a new Anker BT keyboard that also won't pair. Tried the FN and z. It goes into pairing mode. However the monitor is only showing the intro setup
Yeah, the Anker one needs some semblance of software to connect. You may need a hardwire or a new Apple keyboard to at least get you started.
OK Thanks
You're welcome. Sorry you're having trouble. I know getting a new Apple device is exciting...or at least can be.
