iCloud slowing down my laptop - finder stops responding.

I don't have enough storage on my laptop so I bought iCloud storage everything was fine until 1 month back, any file I touch takes first of all 30s to open, if I browse a file from browser to attach the browser freezes. I was able to fix it by signing out of icloud and downloading everything but my space got full really fast. If this is how its going to be I feel there is no point paying for icloud storage?

Even the files that are downloaded now and which are supposed to sync with icloud take 5-10 seconds to open or finder stops responding.

is anyone going through something similar? I don't know how to fix this, this was fine until a 1 month ago.

The purpose of iCloud Drive is to synchronize files with iCloud.com and with other devices connected to the account. In general, the purpose is not to alleviate storage problems with your Mac, though some of that can be done.

How are you using iCloud Drive to help with your storage? Do you have "Optimize Storage" turned on? Do you use the "Remove from Download" sub-menu? Have you designated some files as "Keep downloaded?"

How much free storage do you have on you Mac? Apple says that you need at least 10% of your storage to be free.

How much free storage do you have at iCloud.com?
