I have seen nothing specific with iOS 18.4.1 causing the NFC reader to no longer work. Of course, you can always try the Force Restart, which has been seen to resolve some problems after an update:

• Press and release quickly Volume Up
• Press and release quickly Volume Down
• Press and hold the side button until the Apple Logo appears. This can take up to 15 seconds and you will want to ignore anything else you see on the screen during that time while holding the side button.

NFC can be diagnosed remotely if it’s more convenient. Please have Apple perform diagnostics on your iPhone. It can be done in person at an Apple Retail Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics. Specifically, the NFC module. There are also free apps on the Apple App Store that can activate and test NFC. I use NFC Checker, and NFC Tools also works.

Yes I have the same problem on my SE3.

My nfc cannot detect my transit card after update to 18.4.1. But my Apply Pay is working with no issues.

Did you manage to get this fixed? I've the same issue, I'm sure it's not hardware as the NFC reader was working minutes before I upgraded to 18.4.1, hasn't worked since.

Sounds like another issue than NFC not working. Your employer issues with NFC may be (probably are) a separate issue.

Apple Pay generally does not read tags. They respond with a merchant handshake after initial recognition. You need to use an NFC app to read tags.

Is there an issue with Apple Pay, reading a specific NFC tag or some other use of NFC?

Are you suggesting Apple Pay at payment terminals which accept Apple Pay aren't working with your iPhone. Otherwise, please explain how you are trying to use NFC on your iPhone.
