Screen doesn’t light up for notifications in my iphone 14pro

If I get a notification from any app on my phone, it just makes the sound but does NOT light up. This usually happens when my phone is locked, it brightens up a little if I put it on “always on display”.

I have an iPhone 14 pro, and have gone through my notification settings and sounds/haptics and there’s nothing indicating a change in the screen lighting up.

My phone is also not on “do not disturb” or “Focus” and everything else works fine.

I also recently updated to iOS 18.4.1.

  1. Disable Low Power Mode
    1. Go to Settings > Battery.
    2. If Low Power Mode is on, turn it off. It can affect notification behavior.
  2. Check Focus Mode (Do Not Disturb, Sleep, etc.)
    1. Go to Settings > Focus and make sure no Focus mode is silencing notifications or dimming the Lock Screen.
    2. If one is active, tap it → check Options → make sure "Dim Lock Screen" is off.
  3. Enable “Show on Lock Screen”
    1. Go to Settings > Notifications > [App] → ensure:
      1. Allow Notifications is on.
      2. Lock Screen is checked under Alerts.
    2. Repeat for key apps (Messages, WhatsApp, etc.)
