Classic IPod no longer recognized in car or in iTunes

My wife bought me an IPod classic last year and it has been working great in my car and in iTunes at home and work. Just this week it no longer is recognized anywhere. I use separate USB cords at home, at work and in the car so I'm fairly certain it's not a cord issue. I have also done the disk mode trick multiple times (switching between hold on/off, holding menu plus center button until the Apple logo shows up) but nothing seems to make a difference. I'm using version 12.13.7.1 of iTunes at work and home.

I have another IPod classic that I use and it has no issues (it has less memory); does anybody have any recommendations on what else I can try?
