How to get my ipod classic working

I have 160gb iPod Classic. When I turn it on I get the normal apple logo followed by a screen with a red X and the old apple ipod support URL. When plug it into my laptop (I have a PC running Windows 10) it seems to not be recognized at all as a connected device, including in iTunes (running version 12.12.9). I've tried holding the menu button and middle buttons to reset it and it goes to the same screen. I'd love to get my iPod and running, any advice?

Hi mshorty625,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your iPod Classic shows an "X" onscreen and not recognized. Make sure iTunes is running the latest available version. Disconnect iPod and put in Disk mode to restore it. This will remove content, but you can add it back once your iPod is working again.

How to use disk mode on your iPod - Apple Support has the steps to put iPod into Disk Mode for your specific model.

Regards.
