Apple Music (the app, not the service) smart playlist rules/limits not functioning as expected
This used to work and I am unsure of when it broke.
I am on a Mac mini M4 with Sequoia 15.4.1, Music is version 1.5.4.70
I have many smart playlists which I use like algorithms to serve up my music in ways that please me, for me.
My issue is within the playlist rules, when using limits. One is given the option to select tracks by a set of predetermined choices, in particular "most often played" and "least often played". Neither of these options do what they say.
For instance, I have a smart playlist (BRAP) with 1578 songs. 910 of those songs have play information. Only 56 of these tracks have been played 2 or more times. When I create another smart playlist (BRAP Most) that takes BRAP and limits the list to 242 MB selected by "most often played", I get a playlist with ~242 MB of songs from BRAP but have not play counts, no play information. I know I have 910 songs that have more play counts than the ones in the new list.
Same thing, if I limit for "least often played" the resulting list is exactly the same as what is produced with "most often played".
This simply does not make sense to me.
My workaround is add a 2nd row to the matches, match all, and match Plays to "is greater than" and "2". With this I have a list of my most often played of BRAP. (If I say greater than "1" however, I get a 242 MB list of tracks that have been played exactly 2 times, go figure!)
For BRAP Least, I set Plays to 0, and limit my selection by "random" and that works well enough for now.
I know this functionality worked about a decade ago when I set it up, albeit it was iTunes at the time.
I also tested Most and Least Often, neither of those function correctly either.
