Can’t add my Santander Visa card to Apple Pay

Apple does not approve or decline adding cards to Apple Wallet. The issuing bank and the Payment Network Operator (Visa, Mastercard, American Express etc.) are the two financial institutions that approve or decline your card for use with Apple Pay and adding to Apple Wallet.

The error message specifically says contact card issuer, not add card to husband’s device. Your bank and/or PNO now suspect your account for possible fraudulent use by adding their card to a different device.

Please contact the card issuer and ask why they and or PNO are declining the card for use with Apple Pay.

OK, stop trying to add it. Visa, Mastercard etc. automatically block adding the card after 5 failed attempts. It’s an anti fraud measure. The block is for 24 to 72 hours, depending on what the bank selects.

You may have too many tokens on your iPhone as a result of all the attempts. Contact the bank and ask them to clear all tokens including merchant tokens.

Hi, I understand, you just want to add your card, so what the heck, try the husband’s iPhone. But if we look at it from the banks or PNO standpoint, it sure could be a scammer trying to add a card to multiple iPhones/wallets. 😀😀

That’s because Visa is blocking your card. Visa won’t reveal any details to you because they have no way of verifying your iPhone (device). Your bank’s fraud team or IT department (different banks are structured differently) needs to contact Visa and resolve the issue.

I know, you didn’t do anything that thousands haven’t also done. Talk to the bank and we’ll see what they have to say and work through it. 😀

So, if the bank isn’t blocking the card, Visa is. Your bank will need to contact Visa to get the block removed.

What country are you in and what country is the bank in? Do you use a VPN ?

Are you connecting via WiFi or cellular? Have you tried both?

Have you tried to add the card more than 5 times in last 24 hours?

Were you able to resolve it? I also have Santander and spent the whole day calling. They answer and tell me that from Prisma Visa’s side everything looks fine, but it still won’t let me add the card.
