Face ID Stopped working 2-3 days after IOS update 18.4.1

I have used my iPhone 13 since purchase in January 2023 successfully without any problems. Updated IOS to 18.4.1 a few days ago which went without any problems. Face ID worked as before the update. However yesterday morning Face ID stopped working. Reseting or later using "Set Up Face ID" it would only let me get to the"Position your face within the frame". It then consistently tells me "Your face is out of view" and to "Position Your Face Within the Frame. Over and over.

I have recovered via a backup without a change to this dilemma.

Any ideas?

Follow these steps, testing after each step:

If that didn’t work, then it could be a hardware issue.

According to Apple:

Using diagnostics available in iOS 14.6 or later, Apple has detected an issue with your TrueDepth camera that might cause it to not function as expected. The TrueDepth camera contains lasers, which might be disabled for safety reasons if the device malfunctions or is damaged. This won't prevent you from using your iPhone or iPad, but until your iPhone or iPad is updated or serviced, you might not be able to use Face ID, Animoji, Memoji, and some other features that use the front camera.

As a result, I recommend service.

Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

When Face ID doesn't work, it usually indicates an issue with the TrueDepth Camera, either a software issue or something obstructing it, or a hardware issue. Please first troubleshoot with these two Support Articles.

If Face ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support

If an alert says Face ID has an issue on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support

If those don't help and the issue persists, this would be indicative of a hardware issue. It's also possible it was already starting to fail before and then the update caused additional stress on it to fail. As a result, I suggest you make a reservation at your nearest Apple Store Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
