How do I turn off screen recording while using Safari?

While using Safari, a blue dot indicating screen recording was being used and then disappeared itself. I did not initiate this and was't on a site needing it. I don't even know how to use it TBH. This feels a bit like invasion of privacy. How do I turn this off permanently? Or report this?

What blue dot?

Where does it appear?

Why do you assume that means screen recording is active?

Websites can't initiate screen recording as that is a system function, and it's designated by an icon of a circle with a square inside on the menu bar, and nothing else.

Perhaps if you explain exactly what you are seeing someone may be able to identify what the blue dot means.

Does it happen consistently after you do something specific?

I see reports that it may happen when entering or exiting full screen mode with Safari, but I cannot myself reproduce it.

It may be a glitch or bug. The fact it goes away when you try to click on it is very odd, but adds value to the bug theory.

Do you perhaps have an extension installed and enabled for Safari that may be doing this? Check the Safari Menu ➜ Settings ➜ Extensions
