Find My app no longer showing “Play Sound” option for AirTags

Update: I spoke to Apple Support:

1. They hadn't seen this issue before, so after a pile of questions they recommended a force restart: Force restart iPhone – Apple Support (UK)
2. This WORKED, and Find My is now has the same UI as anticipated (i.e. the "Play Sound" button is back, and all the other buttons (Share, Location etc) are working.
3. Support also confirmed that you can't see AirTags (aka 'Items') via icloud.com/find (as you require a 'trusted device'). Maybe this is common knowledge but it was new to me when I was troubleshooting this

My GUESS (unsubstantiated) is the recent iOS 18.4.1 update has caused this issue. Can't confirm, but at least we have a work around

I have multiple AirTags and I can’t identify which is which now🤡 what did Apple updates do!??

Just realised this is happening to me as well. I can no longer share the tag, set it's status to lost, or play any sound or get granular directions to find it

Can someone from apple please on this?!?!? My airtag is now rendered completely useless...

I can't figure out how to find this option anymore, either. I have my dog trained to come back to me if I ever play it, but when I tried today, I couldn't find the option in the app.

This happened to me after update. Turn your phone off and back on and it should reappear.

The same exact scenario just occurred with me. Hard restart, reboot, no change, then changed after I came back to this thread then returned to check after reading this post. Back up and running.

Same thing here. Even tried the reset the AirTag and repair it but the same results with the same screen above. Definitely broken by the iOS 18.4.1 update.

Same issue. Did the hard reboot on the iPhone. It didn’t change… for about 1 min, then while I was looking at it the screen changed and showed the sound buttons again like before.

Tried switching off and on but didn’t help. Only the force restart worked.

I had the exact same behavior - it was totally worthless for finding my AirTags. Then I tried a Settings -> General -> Shutdown, and that fixed it. At first, however, the “Play Sound” and “Find” weren’t there, and then they both got tiled in after a couple of seconds. Thanks for helping figure this out!

Came here for the same thing. No point to my Apple tag if I can’t play the sound…!
