Mail app spell checker is disabling send button on iMac after macOS Sequoia update

I have two issues with Mail spell checker.

The first is that it insists on correcting not just the text in the mail but also the quoted text which to me is totally unnecessary and I haven't found a way of stopping it although Outlook with Windows had it as a feature when I used that for work until a couple of years ago. I always check on sending as, to be honest, I don't trust any form of auto-correction - if I check when sending I can see what corrections it's doing. I'm no perfect typist so it's a necessary tool. Having to go through the extra text that's already been read by both sender and recipient is frustrating and slows you down unnecessarily. To stop it I click on the red box in the top corner and the message gets sent.

The second issue is a new one I've only noticed today, having recently uploaded Sequoia 15.4. Now when I click the red box the spell check dialogue box disappears but the message doesn't send, not only that I can't send it then as the send button is greyed out. The only workaround I've found is to manually start the spell check process.

I'd welcome any suggestions to deal with these issues.

Hey @all -- quick workaround for this that is infinitely less annoying and let's you KEEP the spell checker on:

Just go into the message after closing the spell check window, and just hit the spacebar, or other keystrokes a few times and it will automatically just send the message!

Weird, but this has been like this for years -- often to my annoyance when I would try to edit a message mid-spell-check, and it would just send after a few keystrokes.

Now that we have this bug, it's actually quite a useful workaround -- but yes, ultimately, apple needs to fix the greyed out "send" icon so we can send whenever we want -- whether before, during or after a spell check, or if we suspend it altogether.

No solution for the "Unnecessary checking"

Once it started checking the quoted text, would just hit the "Command Shift D" and off the email would go.

That is before 15.4 was installed.

To solve the second issue, Go to Mail Settings > Composing > Check Spelling.

Change from ‘when you click send’.

To ‘never’ or ‘as you type’.

Solves the issue but needs to be fixed by Apple.

Hi, group. I just got a replacement to my Macbook Pro. This Macbook Air Sequoia 15.5 has the spellcheck problem described here. The solution "close the spellcheck window" isn't available to me. That button is grayed out. My workaround is to close the message, then go into Drafts and open/send it. Definitely a pain! I look forward to watching this discussion for more solutions. Thank you!
