Why is Apple Card asking me to Request New Card Number?

My Apple Card Wallet is asking me to request a new card number. "Remember to update card information with merchants who may have your current number on file."

I have not claimed fraud or asked for a new card number. If I get a new card number I will have to change auto-pay settings for many expenses, which is a real pain. Last time that happened I lost my dental insurance because I couldn't get Blue Cross to take my new card number.
