Why is my password not working on the Pages app?

As of November 2024 I have not been able to log into my pages locked documents. I do remember my password but it won’t let me reset or access my saved work. Same issue with the notes app on my iPhone 13pro. An update happened back in 2024 and ever since then cannot access old locked files. I do remember my passwords. I have researched and my fear is no resolution and I have many important documents that I locked for privacy and wish to gain access to them again. Does anyone know of a solution besides setting >reset password? I’ve tried a lot of different things. I need help. Thank you.

You will need the current document password to change or remove the Pages document password. No magic wand otherwise.


Had you chosen to Remember the password in the Keychain option on the original password dialog, Pages would reference the keychain to automatically get the password and open the documents. No mental recall is required, as long as the Pages document remains in the same user account where the password was set.


The surefire means to circumvent memory recall of passwords is to write them down with the filename in a text document. Unless you use the same easily remembered password for all of your Pages documents, human recall is a tricky thing…


Either the keychain or lucid recall will get you past a password-protected Pages document. Nothing else will.

Hello, thank you for replying, however as mentioned I do remember my password. I even did write down passwords before. In this case, It is not a case of not remembering, it is a glitch that happened after a software update and really wish Apple would take accountability in helping and giving the opportunity to change old page documents that were encrypted as well as the notes app that was also mentioned with same issue.


I do now use the keys password app and It is helpful but still doesn’t resolve accessing my pages documents.

No Apple employees participate in these fellow user-supported, public communities. Unless you contact Apple Support, with Apple-badged employees, and share your current dilemma with them, no one here can resolve your password-protected Pages documents issues, or with Notes on your iPhone 13 Pro.


Check your keyboard input selection again (e.g. A+, U.S., etc) to ensure that it is not entering unexpectedly different characters while typing your password in the Pages unlock dialog. I recommend installing the Apple Support App on your iPhone too.
